Katie Couric to LIL’ WAYNE: “Do you ever think you should ease up on the weed?”

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

Last night, Katie Couric’s “All Access Grammy Special” aired.  Even the idea of the former Today Show host/Skeletor impersonator Katie Couric chatting with Weezy F. Baby couldn’t distract me from L O S T, so I recorded that ish.  XXL did me one better my enocding the whole thang and here it is: Ms.FakeSunshine interviewing the self-professed ‘gangster’ : (more…)

PREVIEW: Lonely Island’s INCREDIBAD

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

The Lonely Island, who brought the world “D*ck in a Box” and “Jizz in My Pants,” have an album titled INCREDIBAD dropping soon.  Here’s a new track featuring T-Pain called “I’m On a Boat.”  I don’t find it as funny as the other tracks, but hey, it’s just the audio so far (THIS IS NOT AN ACTUAL VIDEO).  If you listen to this YouTube audio, though, you’ll hear that the best part is the fact that T-Pain is in the mix (and in on the joke?)

L O S T : season FIVE, “The LITTLE PRINCE” (episode 4)

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

lost-season220mynd3

I’m getting a little concerned already about season five of LOST, and not simply because tonight’s title, “The Little Prince,” referred to baby Aaron and not Ben as I had hoped…
I worry that the season will fall into a pattern of parceling out bits of information and clues at too steady and even of a pace.  It seems we’ll be spending the whole season following the “70 hours left” before Ben’s window of opportunity to get the Oceanic 6 back The Island closes.  Soap operas spring to mind watching Sun… She gets a package!…There’s a gun!…She sees Ben…Is she going to shoot him?…Tune in tomorrow!  (more…)

Christian Bale : The Real Deal (and now remixed)

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

american-psycho-02Days after it’s infection of EVERY MEDIA OUTLET IN EXISTENCE, you have likely heard Christian Bale’s profanity-laced excoriation of a cinematographer on the set of TERMINATOR: SALVATION (which actually occurred months ago).  The short-attention-span, snarky, glass-housed web media (and the legions of geniuses who stoke the fires with their brilliant comments) have lept on the story, mostly with the slant that Bale is clearly the biggest ______ (fill in the blank; your choice) EVER.  Many morons point to the tirade as signs of a ‘typical’ actor’s ego-fueled rant.  I’m calling bullsh*t on all of this because what is lost among many of the knee-jerk dissections is the fact that a CINEMATOGRAPHER was involved.  While some reports describe Bale’s vitriol as directed towards a “crew member,” implying that Bale was yelling at some 18-year-old assistant on his first day, this completely misconstrues the situation.  The cinematographer (or DP- Director of Photography) is one of the most important technical positions and I can’t imagine how a DP could be so unfocused to screw up a take.  Having personally been on set with Mr. Bale (albeit for one day) and having heard him discuss his craft at length on Charlie Rose, I believe him to be a devoted professional who should command similar focus from those working around him… anyway…
If you haven’t heard the tirade, NME.com has it along with a “mash-up”-type track from LA’s THE MAE SHI called “R U Professional” HERE

Cam’ron feels your pain, job searchers…

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

This Cam’ron track, “I Hate My Job,” isn’t exactly top-shelf Dipset fire, but having been in the job market for weeks now, I appreciate his melancholy take on the whole crappy process…

BANDS rocking ya’ TV set THIS WEEK!

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

148853x-news-tveye_232From Pitchforkmedia’s T.V. Eye, here are my picks for who to watch on the tube:
Tuesday, Feb. 3rd on Jimmy Kimmel:  The Bird and the Bee
Wednesday, Feb. 4th on CBS:  Katie Couric will interview LIL’ WAYNE !
(part of her ‘All-Access’ Grammy special)
Thursday, Feb. 5th on Jimmy Kimmel: MORRISSEY !!!
Friday, Feb. 6th on David Letterman:  Beirut (whattup ARUN!)
Saturday, Feb. 7th on Saturday Night Live:  TV on the RADIO
…and this Sunday, Feb. 8th, you have the Grammy’s.  Formerly the most out-of-touch of the major media arts award shows, the Grammy’s have slowly become more relevant over the past two years.  While I still find the actual show INCREDIBLY lame (sorry, Courtney), a big night for Lil’ Wayne this year will go a long way towards improving their street cred… unless he loses to some Will.I.Am.horrible/Coldplay collabo’ for ‘Best Rap Song’ (I won’t cross my fingers).

BLAISE MILLER, the TV screen FILLER!!!

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Homie BLAISE MILLER has a new Bud Light commercial I had hoped to see on the SuperBowl… but it’s a little TOO good for network television!

O, FREE CANADA! – National Film Board puts works online

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

An email from FLAVORPILL informed me that the National Film Board of Canada has launched a new site that not only posts award-winning films for FREE online viewing, but accompanies it with a great database that lets you search by various categories, including length…
I’m sure there are countless treasures to be found, but here is one of my all-time favorite pieces of animation.  I believe I saw it first on American TV when I was about 11 years old and have never forgotten it…  Here, for your pleasure, is the mini-masterpiece, “THE CAT CAME BACK” from 1988
