IBUKI will look down on the earth in quiet mechanical judgement…

lost-season-5-4dc4626942
If you’ve never seen LOST, I certainly don’t suggest that you start now.  In fact, that would be a HORRIBLE idea.  You’ve got to start from the beginning, with the DVD’s/BluRay’s/online episodes.  But if you are up to date, you’re probably excited by the start of season 5 this week.  Well, how big a fan are you (and how much free time to you have)?  Here’s a post from a blog hosted at Powell’s book store site from a man who WROTE AN ENTIRE BOOK ABOUT THE SHOW!  Here he examines a work called “The 36 Dramatic Situations” and how it is relevant to L O S T.

Also, if you want to try to get on the same page as Daniel Faraday, here’s WikiPedia’s primer on STRING THEORY (in case you aren’t familiar with basics like the Holographic Principle…)

Could SAG destroy the film industry?

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

www.savethebiz.org thinks so!  While I support the Screen Actors Guild and my homies that are members, another work stoppage could be a huge blow to the thousands of people that work below the line.  Thanks to Christina for the link.

DAMN! Adrian Wilson can jump so much higher than white men!

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

If you haven’t seen Arizona Cardinals safety Adrian Wilson jumping a 66 inch high pole on YouTube, well here you go:

Unfortunately, I have to admit I heard about this via Jim Rome’s ESPN show. At least it is a sweet video…

a little bit of LITTLE BOOTS

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

If you’re into electropop -type dance jams, then you’ve got to check out LITTLE BOOTS.  I’ve had this remix of their hit “Meddle” on repeat almost constantly recently…a GREAT song.  DOWNLOAD HERE!

Also, Little Boots (which is apparently a guy and a gal) have some free mixtapes floating around the internet.  DOWNLOAD ONE OF THEM HERE! (keep clicking ‘Skip Ads’ til you get where you download; DON’T WORRY!)

OSCARS, … schmoscars?

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

Well, the nominations for the 2009 Academy Awards were announced about 12 hours ago and… they’re pretty boring, but not exactly free of surprises.  The academy (AMPAS) avoided having their ceremony picketed by legions of 15-year-olds by giving Heath Ledger the nomination he so justly deserved, but The Dark Knight went un-nominated as did its director, Christopher Nolan.  [while I haven’t yet seen it] Benjamin Button seems to me just as much a Hollywood product if not more than The Dark Knight, so it’s a little tough to see Nolan’s film benched when B.Button makes Oscar’s starting five.  I’ll probably have to see the damn thing (B.Button) now, especially since the last time I nearly passed on a film because of my perceptions despite its director having a near-perfect filmmography (Bryan Singer’s Valkyrie), I was wrong.  Dirt‘s review, the mixed reviews of others, and its 2 hour 45 minute runtime will make it less than a top priority.  Running time is a lame excuse, though, after seeing 4 hour 20 minute CHE, another film surely on MY Top 10 that was overlooked for major academy nominations.  [Having not seen all the nominated performances] I have no problem with Benecio Del Toro’s not being talked about as the year’s best performance, but it is still odd for the central, titular character of a biography I would consider possibly the year’s most significant cinematic achievement to go without even a nomination.  The last unfair omission in my opinion was overlooking Bruce Springsteen’s song for The Wrestler.  Although it doesn’t play until the closing credits, it has been years since I’ve heard an original song so completely define a film’s protagonist.  The song by “The Boss” just captures the emotions of that film so perfectly that it deserves recognition.  Until I see more films, I will end all complaints here because the academy did include Trouble The Water in the Best Documentary category.  I only wish the awards were of a mindset that would include it in the best Feature Film category.

Thanks, HOMIES : MC Chris is in effect

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

I had heard of, but never listened to M.C. CHRIS until Dirt put me onto a song of his called “Fett’s Vette” which was not what I was expecting at all.  I was expecting some back-packer-type hip hop but M.C. Chris is something…else.

LA, esse :

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

NadSyde recently sent me this list of the “Top 10 Pizza Joints in LA” from a Los Angeles Times writer (they still make newspapers?).  I have only eaten at 2 that I know of, but if the rest of the list is as good as MOZZA and PALERMO’s, then it is worth confirming the worthiness of the other 8.  Might have to fly in an industry expert like Dirt to validate the results… http://theguide.latimes.com/Elina-Shatkin/lists/139043/top-10-pizza-places-in-l-a

Heads Up for the HOMIES : Must-Have FREE Windows Programs

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

This is for my not-so-savvy Windows users (like Dirt, my pops, my moms, etc) who need some pointers here and there…

ANTI-VIRUS software:  The programs by Norton, Symantec, etc. that often come installed on your new laptop or desktop Windows PC are usually trial versions of system-slowing junk whose only purpose is to sell you updates and other products.  There is one great program that I have found that takes up precious little of your computer’s resources, quietly updates itself with the most up-to-date virus information, is an industry leader, is the choice of computer users in the know, and is F R E E !!! That program is AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition and you can find it here:  http://free.avg.com/

Anti-SPYWARE:  It is highly likely that your system has been infected by spyware at some point.  Spyware, Adware, and Malware are all names for programs that are installed without your knowledge that do all kinds of bad things without your knowledge.  Slowed down performance on your computer is the symptom that most people notice when these programs are running on their system.  The best FREE program for diagnosing and removing this junk is ADAWARE.  It can be downloaded for free here:  http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php
